Bamboo Haiku

The essence of bamboo can best be expressed by Japanese haiku, a verse form influenced by Zen Buddhism. These short poems are extremely simple but highly evocative, emanating from the reader rather than the writer.

Bright droplets in the morning!

Sound of the dew

Dripping in the bamboo

(Buson)

Toad

Be so kind as to move to one side

And let me plant these bamboos

(Chora)
